I’ll admit, I wouldn’t really say I’m a master at skincare. Truth is, for most of my life, I was very lucky and didn’t have to worry about my skin a ton so I just didn’t. I wore SPF daily in my moisturizer and liked trying out fun face masks and things like that, but never struggled with my skin reacting to things or breaking out too often and really never kept up a skincare routine. When I did break out, I usually would just use water to wash my face & ride it out.
If you read my post on The Scalp Scrub That You Need & My Story, you know that I realllly struggled with my skin when I went off of birth control. My skin, my scalp, everything was an oily mess and breaking out every. single. day. I felt hideous for months on end and just wanted to hide. It’s not a good feeling when you struggle with skin issues and can really take a toll on your confidence. So though my struggles have been more recent and I know many women go through so much more with their skin, if you are struggling with your skin, I definitely know how this can effect your self-esteem.

I tried tons of products trying to straighten out my skin, and I finally feel like I have gotten back on track. Yes, some of that has come because my hormones have regulated, but my skin has definitely changed and needs a lot more TLC than it used to.
In the past few years, I’ve also been more concerned about my skin aging. Now that I’m in my 30’s, I really want to do whatever I can to keep fine lines & wrinkles at bay, reverse some of the sun damage from my younger years, and keep my skin looking young and supple.

So when trying out new products over these past few years, I have had all of these things in mind. And let me tell you, I have tried out a lot of things. And though I still get the occasional breakout and my skin is far from perfect, one thing I do think I have down is smooth skin. So what do I do when I find some great products that make me feel super confident in my skin? Share them with you all of course! 🙂 In this article, I wanted to share my basic daily routine for my skin, and what I attribute to my smooth skin plus a couple bonus products that I use on occasion to give me additional smooth, supple skin and anti-aging benefits.
Anti-Aging Skincare Routine for the Smoothest Skin
First off, and mayyybee the most important of all of these products, is my facial toner. I actually used this toner years ago because I had seen it in the store and wanted to try it out, but full disclosure, I had no idea what toner even did lol. So of course, as was my old MO, I used it for a few weeks or so and then moved on to some other fun new product. Now though, I 100% believe this product had a HUGE part in me overcoming the insane oily skin I was experiencing.
Facial toner helps to correct and balance the pH of your skin, which makes sense why it helps with acne as well! This one feels so light and refreshing and works wonders. You can use it on a cotton pad and wipe your skin with it {which I do when I feel like I have extra oil and really need it to cleanse & balance even more} or just spritz it on since it also comes with a spray nozzle. Most days, I just spritz it on after rinsing and drying my face and then let it dry before moving to my next product. Super easy! {I know this toner is a little pricey, but it does last a long time! If you want to try a more affordable option, a friend of mine *with great skin* recommended this toner which I just started giving a try as well and so far it’s really good too!}
Once the toner dries, I use this serum. I mainly was looking for something to brighten my skin and make it look younger and more awake, while also fighting off all the environmental factors that can damage skin like free radicals etc. This serum promotes skin radiance with its antioxidant properties and by replenishing lipids, reducing dark spots & dissolving dead skin cells. Even better, it does all of these things while being cruelty-free and made without additional, potentially harmful ingredients!
TIP: This serum is also great for your neck and backs of your hands where age shows often more quickly than the rest of the body!
After my serum, I put on my moisturizer. Now I know this moisturizer is very pricey, BUT it doubles as a face primer so you don’t have to invest in another product and once you try it, you will know how worth it it is! It has UVA/UVB protecting SPF 30 which is higher than most moisturizers with SPF and it’s anti-fatigue so helps to reduce fine lines & wrinkles and make you look younger and more awake! And your skin feels sooo smooth after you apply it!
TIP: If you don’t want to invest in any of these products right away, you can always ask for a sample at Nordstrom or Sephora to give them a try! Also, both stores allow you to return beauty products if they aren’t working out for you which is a huge plus!
Lastly, I put on my foundation. So I know this doesn’t really count as “skincare” per se, but this foundation feels silky smooth and is the best foundation I’ve ever used. It makes your skin look completely airbrushed and is the perfect amount of coverage!
And voilà, silky smooth skin that is protected from the sun & other environmental factors and looks youthful & awake!
Bonus Products I Use On Occasion

This overnight water mask feels phenomenal on your skin and gives you a refreshed, dewy look when you wake up. It’s especially great after you’ve been out in the sun, traveling on an airplane or in the cold winter months when skin gets dry and dull looking! And the price point is great too for such an amazing product!

This retinol firming eye cream helps reduce dark circles under the eyes as well as fine lines and wrinkles. Retinol helps to stimulate the products of new skin cells and can even help with acne scars. After using it, my eye area feels so smooth and I even feel more awake from it {I know that’s probably totally psychological lol!} Even though this is a retinol product, I never experienced any discomfort or reaction to it.
