Yesterday I posted a TON of great day bags for all kinds of day trips: concerts, festivals, fairs, city exploring, hiking, and pool/beach trips! If you missed the post, read it here!
So today I wanted to post about what to put IN your day bag, specifically for a pool, beach or boat type of day trip, but honestly, a lot of these items are in my day bag for pretty much everything. Below are my 15 essentials to pack & why.
A few of these items, including my sunscreen products, moisturizer with SPF30, face mist with SPF50, and sugar lip balm with SPF15 were also listed in my Sun Protection blog post last week {linked here if you didn’t get a chance to read!} I’ll link those products again here for you though:
- 01 // Sport Sunscreen SPF30
- 02 // Lotion Sunscreen SPF30
- 03 // Smart Essentials Moisturizer with SPF30
- 04 // Face Mist with SPF50
- 05 // Sugar Lip Balm with SPF15
Now on to the new stuff! I just tried out this hair & body oil while in Bermuda & I really like the results. I won’t lie, I picked it up because I thought it looks pretty lol. And I almost put it back thinking, “do I really need this? Will it even do anything worthwhile?”
I ended up bringing it home & then looked it up and found out that a bunch of celebrities love this product so I figured it has to be good right? So I decided to give it a shot and packed it up in my suitcase.
Our first day on vacation it was still slightly chilly on the ship since we were at sea, sailing from NYC, in April and the weather wasn’t so great out. But I was determined to try and wear my fun vacation outfits {and I literally didn’t pack any pants except yoga pants lol} so I had to bear my winter legs. And for those of you who live in northern areas, you know that your winter skin isn’t always pretty when you first unveil it in the spring lol.
I use moisturizer on my body daily after I shower, but it wasn’t cutting it. So I decided to use this body oil & it made SUCH a difference. My legs and arms looked so much healthier and radiant.
So I know this post is about your pool or beach bag, but I had to share that first. Our second day of vacation we finally got a little bit of sunshine, so I had to get to the pool loungers #sunseekinginstyle 🙂 but it was super breezy, which always dries out the skin. I broke this body & hair oil out again and voila, problem solved! I felt fabulous after hydrating with this oil.
Towards the end of our vacation, I wanted to try this oil out in my hair, since it’s a hair & body oil after all, so that I could report back to you guys about it. My hair is really fine, but I have a lot of it. Because of this, I usually stay away from oily products so it doesn’t make my hair look greasy or matted to my head. I used this oil after a pool day when I had some humidity waves going and didn’t want to take the time to wash my hair, but my ends were a bit dry from the sun & elements. I put just a small amount in my palm, rubbed my hands together, and kind of scrunched my ends.
It definitely hydrated my hair and made it look so much better! It’s a lightweight oil so didn’t weigh my hair down either. I wouldn’t put it closer to the roots personally, but if you have thicker hair or frizzy hair or darker hair where the oil won’t show up as greasy, then definitely give it a shot and comment below how it works for you!
The other products I always have in my pool or beach bag are a comb like this one, hair clip {cute options here & here} or hair scarf {found some cute & affordable ones on Amazon here, here, here & here}, sunglasses, magazine or book, & a sarong {check out some great sarong options that can double as a scarf on the plane here in my carry-on essentials post!}
I found these body & face wipes last year before we went to Indonesia & always throw a few in my bag. They are made with coconut water, green tea, and a bunch of plant extracts to help balance and nourish the skin as they cleanse away sweat. They are also very reasonably priced & can double as hand wipes in a bind!
I always have an Evian mini bottle in my bag to spritz on to keep my skin hydrated in the sunshine. It helps me to feel refreshed & makes my skin feel rejuvenated. If you are running to the store or something after the pool or beach & want to feel a little more put together, I swear, just a quick spritz of this will make you feel good to go!
Lastly, I always keep my liquid items {as most of these items are} in a pouch within my pool or beach bag. A few years back, I randomly found this pouch with a plastic liner while wandering through a store & I was like wow, this is the thing I needed that I didn’t know I needed lol. It’s so helpful to just ensure that if anything spills or gets hot and explodes in your bag it will be easy to clean and won’t ruin the pouch or your main bag. Since mine is old, I found a few cute ones for you here, here & here.
Also, those of you who know me well know that I love crafting & always have. I found this great article detailing how to make your own vinyl lined pouch! Check it out! I think I have to make one now 🙂
I’m going to add a 16th {consider it a freebie 😉 } because I ALWAYS have a bottle of water in my beach or pool bag. Make sure you stay hydrated out there! Ok, that’s it now, all the essentials you need for a great day at the pool, beach, or boating!
Are there any products you have to have in your pool or beach bag that I didn’t mention? Comment below!
